I have used stainless steel nails and stainless steel staples in my record coating facilities. The steel usually cause rust runs seen in many installations. Yes, steel is more expensive, but 10 years later I have not have seen no work at all on my first installation. Do not worry about staples or, the wood swells rapidly and covers the tops of first necessity. In fact, I prefer basic food for the simple reason that no nail heads left behind in sight. If using nails use at least 2 1 / 2 inches and not approach too close to the edges or you will crack the wood. Staples also must be at least 2 1 / 2 inches and can get closer to the edges (about an inch.) Another tip is to caulk the joints before stapling keep it tight to keep moisture. Edition: galvanized rust, which is why I stopped using them. Forget manufacturer finishing nail, it will not do the job.
