Classroom decorations.....?
I will be teaching 6,7,and 8 mathematics and science for the next school year. I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on decorating the classroom.. i have always done 2,3 and 4 so this is a step up for me. i am really into cutesy stuff, and I want to keep my class cute and cozy, but I will need a more grown up appeall.But how much more grown up? I guess they don't like Care Bears anymore. 
My classroom is full of bulletin boards, and I love to decorate. I designate areas for certain themes, like for sports, or classroom rules, or for general information. My favorite idea is to make a 3D tree out of crumpled construction paper, and change the season around that tree as the seasons change throughout the year.
The main thing is to remember that most middle schoolers really don't mind the cutesy stuff at all. It is more important that they are learning in a comfortable, informative invironment. As long as you make the effort to be yourself in your classroom, the kids will respond.
