Does this sound okay for a ball python?
I have a 20 gallon tank
Will buy aspen bedding, how deep should it be? Cause if theres a hide box, does that go under or on top of bedding?
Hide box and water bowl, which side do I keep the water bowl on? Hot or colder side? Do I just keep a lil cave on the cold side and thats it?
Heat lamp, Ceramic right? How many watts?
Lil cave or hide log, both sides of tank.
Food, its a baby like a foot long, what type of frozen pinkies does it eat? Size food?
I think thats it, I may be leaving some info out.
The pet store I saw, sells reallly cheap stuff, some used some not. Like the lamps are 11 instead of 15 and got other cheap stuff, does that mean its like, faulty stuff?
Aspen should be about 1.5 - 2" thick on the bottom. Watch for burrowing over the heat pad if you have one, snakes aren't very sensitive on their undersides and can burn without realizing it. Keep the substrate there as a buffer between the snake and the heat. Change it out from time to time too, because high humidity + old substrate = mites.
You want to keep the water on the cooler side because it will evaporate on the warm side. Change it whenever you think to and clean the bowl out when you do. The snake needs two hides: one on the warm side and one on the cool. Snakes like to be hidden and so they should be able to hide no matter what temperature they wish to be at. Be sure the the one on the warm side is a bit elevated to the snake can climb on top and bask in the light if it wants to.
I use an infrared bulb for my heat lamp for my spotted python. I have a 20 long terrarium and a 75 watt bulb works fine. If it were more powerful I'd worry about roasting my snake!
Glad to hear you'll be feeding frozen/thawed. My python eats medium sized pinkies but she's much thinner than a ball python. Take the mouse that's about as wide as your snake. It might be a hopper.
A pet store that doesn't charge much is a good thing. Keep going back and supporting them with your business. If something is faulty or not working right, I'm sure they'll take it back and exchange it. Good luck!
