Lake Wenatchee
Lake Wenatchee is a beautiful alpine lake located not far from U.S. Route 2 in the central part of Washington State. The lake is in the Cascade Mountains, located twenty miles north of the city of Leavenworth, a popular tourist destination. Visitors can reach Lake Wenatchee and exiting on State Route 207. The lake is located about five miles north on State Route 207 and has excellent signage. The South Entrance to Lake Wenatchee State Park has a particularly nice beach with nearby parking and campsites. It has beautiful views to the west of the lake and Cascade Mountains. There is also Emerald Island offshore.
The Cascade Mountains around Lake Wenatchee reach an elevation of about 6,000 feet. Glaciers, snowmelt, and runoff from the mountains feed the lake, which is at an elevation of 1875 feet. The lake's deepest point is 247 feet. It is about 5 miles long and has 13.3 miles of shoreline.
Lake Wenatchee's main tributaries are the White River and the Little Wenatchee River, which enter the lake on its western side. The Wenatchee River, a significant river that flows for fifty-three miles before its confluence with the Columbia River, is the lake's primary outflow. The river begins on the lake's eastern end.
Lake Wenatchee is a popular destination for recreation throughout the year. Lake Wenatchee State Park is located on the lake's eastern end. It offers camping, fishing, swimming, water-skiing, kayaking, windsurfing, and a boat launch for boats and personal watercrafts. In the winter, the lake is often frozen over. Lake Wenatchee State Park has trails for cross-country skiing, dog sledding and snowshoeing. Ice climbing is also available. In the warmer months, the trails can be used for hiking and equestrian riding.
Lake Wenatchee has amenities available to visitors including lodging, rental homes, condos, cabins, bed and breakfasts, and RV parking. Fish Lake, a smaller but also popular lake, is located about two miles northeast of Lake Wenatchee. It also has cabins and vacation homes. Aviators can reach Lake Wenatchee via the Lake Wenatchee State Airport, which is an unimproved grass and dirt landing strip that is located near the lake.
