Unwilling to change the wood panels?
Never thought I'd say this, but I'm going to buy a house with wood paneling on it, and strangely, I like it. Usually I like the wood panels and I think it is dated, but the woodwork in this house is in the master bedroom and is very good quality. Is real wood and is a kind of knotty pine ski-lodge style. It's pretty nice that I like painting on wood quality. So ... How do you design around a guy like that? I have an idea in my head that could be a modern rustic look, but I'm not sure how to pull something together. I hope you will feel like a romantic, cozy cabin feel, but with enough modern elements to it does not feel dated. And I do not want it to be atrocious (with a bear skin rug or anything). Any tasteful suggestions or links to inspiring photos would be appreciated! Thanks!
You can design your decor around this wooden panels. I suggest to off set the yellow pine, and it becomes very dominant and almost depressing after a while. Personally I like furniture in white or black furniture. Both go very well with pine. Black is more of a rustic look and reduce the yellow pines. White is a stark contrast which normally stays out of a white wood but clear that up. Traditionally a dark forest green / burgundy is the norm for use with pines. I find this date and the dark, unless you go for country look at all the rustic / (but said he wanted to stay away from this.) White / soft tone of the accents of yellow and purple is nice. Light / Soft turquoise is a nice contrast or even a very soft aqua can be a good color to pine. Pick up a few paint samples and put them against the wood to see what makes you smile and choose that color. If you have clothes in any of these colors ... They stretched across a chair by the wall, step back and see what is attractive.
