Should You Build Or Buy A Log Home
Owning a log home is something you may want to do. Thus this type of house is the most common in rural America and for centuries it has remained the preferred style of building in the country. The log home also known as the cabin house is typical of the rural west and holds much of the history of architecture in that region.
You may want to own a log house for many reasons. You would want to have it as permanent home, as a holiday residence or as use as a guest home. Irrespective of the purpose to which you want to put the building, you are faced with two fundamental decisions - will you buy a log home or you will build one from scratch?
Depending on a number of factors, you will want to choose one option. We look at the pros and cons of buying or building a log house.
When you buy a log house, you are feed from many troubles. You will not need to have architectural decisions to make. You will not have to contemplate on which plan to choose, where to build it and how to put together the workers. You have the added advantage of reaching a decision quickly whether you want the end product or not. If you urgently need the building, you can move in no time. You can know in advance how much the price of the building will be and the total cost. There are no other factors that will impact your total cost of ownership as the negotiated price is the final. If you buy an existing log house, you are going to incur less expense with renovation or changes. You will not need to have elaborate renovations to be able to bring the building to the standard or state that you want. If you buy, you have avoided all the legalities that you would have gone trough with the law to satisfy various regulations. You would realize that it is easier to find a great place where you would live to live than to build a new cabin house.
Building a new log home from scratch will confer some benefits too. You can put up a custom house which specifications, design and finishing will meet your desires. If you buy an existing log house, you are constrained by the design and size of the initial designer. Where the building is more complex, you may find it quite difficult to make any elaborate changes. The floor plan will in most cases determine the superstructure. It is usually fixed and once constructed would be difficult to make modifications to. The look of the building is mostly affected by the type and design of roof on it. If you buy your own log house, you are able to determine advance how you want the roof to go.
Whether you will buy a new log house or you will buy an existing one will depend on so many factors. If you are not well versed I this area, you may have to seek the services of a real estate agent who has a lot of experience I western homes. He will be able to advise on where to buy and how to buy. In most cases, these are professionals who have been involved in hundreds of transactions and can tell the location and architecture that that will suit your purpose. If you would like to use your log home for a dude ranch, you will need to either build one from scratch or get an existing one that will allow a lot of modifications to be done. You cannot easily convert a house tat was meant to e family dwelling place into a hostel. You will need to do a lot of modifications. If you are buying an existing house with limited room for modifications, you will have to spend a lit of money and total bring down the house first.
