Who should I hire to find out what work needs to be done to finish my parents' unfinished Log Cabin?
My father began building a home in the early 1980s. It is a 2-story Log Cabin Kit with a basement. The main structure kit portion is complete, but he never finished the additional interior work to make the home suitable to live in. There is some electrical and plumbing work completed, but unfinished items I know of are flooring, drywall, kitchen cabinets and countertops, lighting. He did finish the master bedroom and bath enough so they can spend the night there occasionally. What type of professional would be the best to hire to get a complete list of the remaining items to be done so that the home can be considered finished and suitable to live in? My goal is to finish the dream home for my parents and help them move in since they are aging and are unable to complete it themselves. I just don't know where to start.
Well, we called the building inspector first and he told us what we'd need to do to get every thing to code. It was nice because then we could gauge what the contractors were telling us vs what the building inspector told us.
