This is going to be a WHILE down the line, but I want to buy one of those log cabin kit homes and put it on a piece of land. Have any of you guys ever done that? Did you get a loan from the bank for the kit and construction? Ive read about them on the sites but I wanted to talk to a real person who has done this...

I have not done this personally however I am licensed in Washington to sell real estate and I know that there are certain obstacles to overcome when building a log home. The loans are special and usually a higher interest rate than stick built homes. I also know that the insurance is more expensive. It is nothing that money can't take care of. Also the ability to re-sell the home is harder because they are a special home that alot of people don't like. It is like a Victorian with alot of wall paper and special archecture. I like them personally but I also would suggest you check on the maintainance after it is built. Depending on where you are, you may have to keep up the wood every year. Could also be expensive. I have seen other kit home that are wood. They go together like like Lincoln logs but they are dimensional lumber that has been laminated with insulation in between the wood.
