Does the wood on a Modular Log Cabin/home need to be treated?
And if so, how often and how much does the treatment usually cost for a small to medium sized modular log home?
"TC" is spot on: control the moisture, and you control the fate of wood.
Best approach (for 'scratch' building) is high ground clearance with block footings/foundation (well above the normal snow heights) and extended roof overhang & runoff control.
For my hand build/modular "D" log home, I used a home made exterior 'paint' of boiled linseed oil + burnt Umber + paraffin wax.
The wax is the water repellent aspect.
So far only the East & West ends have needed re-application; done 1X in 25 years.
Cost varies of course, but estimate $25/gal.
