Something that has been trying to dig up my dead pet?
Last year, during the summer, my beloved basset hound Montana was hit by a car. He dug a grave in the yard (we live in the country, we buried our pets), and that was it. A few days ago, something dug his tomb, and left his head exposed. He is in the process of decomposition, and found it horrible. I covered it again with earth, placed on wire area, and placed the logs on top of it. I checked again this morning, and the records are moved, and pulled the wire to one side. A Again, the dog was partially excavated, and I really do not want to do this again. Live in Wisconsin, so I could be doing the digging? It's really strange, because we have a dog that is a chain out (probably 60 feet from the grave) and has not made a peep during the night. What can we do to prevent the dog dug up, in addition to digging it up and move him?
First, I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I also live in a country area of Wisconsin. Most likely a coyote or fox or something. If you live in the north could even be a wolf. It could be another dog, so perhaps a neighbor or street. It sounds like your pet is not dead expensive buried deep enough. What he did for our dog when he spent a hole was dug about four feet and a half, wrapped in an old towel, put it in a box and buried it to fit that.
