BlueStone Construction | What Makes a MN Cabin Different Than Your Primary Home?
It's 3:30 pm on a typical summer Friday afternoon. Cars are bumper to bumper heading out of town. Passengers on board each longing for the moment when they step out onto their own bit of paradise. What makes a cabin different than your primary home? In a word, pace. Many start relaxing within fifteen minutes into the journey northward.
Being at the lake is peaceful, fun and relaxed. Things are simple there. Food tastes better. Laughter comes easier. Outdoors become an extension of indoor living. And best of all, lake living brings families together.
Architecturally cabins and lakehomes are used very differently than primary residences. An up north cabin must capture the rugged simplicity of it's surroundings and incorporate sophisticated ellegance into the plan layout and craftmanship detail.
A true lakehome sets you at ease the moment you step through the door. Smell the wood. Touch the natural stone. Breath in lingering aroma of your natural fireplace. Gaze through the oversized windows. Ah....you're home.
Each room has a fascinating focal point that captures your imagination. Over your kitchen island is a large aged and rugged chunk of timber suspended as a light cloud. Lighting is inset inside the 16 inch thick light cloud in a way that makes lighting and wood appear to be one and the same. No wires visible. Makes you wonder how they did it?
Massive stone is used throughout playing to size and scale of living area. You see stone over archways, above showers, on columns outside. By this time your eyes gaze upon your majestic stone fireplace flowing floor to ceiling. Some stones are large. Others small. The pattern looks unlike anything you would see in the city. It has a cabin feel that makes you think of thick timbers and substantial stone.
Even the case work around windows has more interest and finish detail than a city home would offer. Natural trim is wider and more abundant. A good portion of the cabin utilizes reclaimed wood and different species adding interest, color/texture diversity and character that highlights craftsmanship.
What makes a cabin different than your main residence? A cabin captures and represents the freedom to do and be what we please.
