Imus Ranch
Facilities
The ranch consists of a village of eight buildings built to emulate an Old West town, including a general store, a "marshal's office," and a "living room" (actually, an infirmary, where young guests get their medications to "bar" of the saloon). The main house is 14,000 square feet (1,300 m2) adobe hacienda American Indian rugs and rustic chandeliers in the great hall. It has five bedrooms of ten children who attend each week during the summer, a library and a dining room that serves all vegetarian meals. The design was largely under the direction of Deirdre Imus to located construction cost more than $ 25 million.
There are bunk houses for doctors, other medical staff and their assistants. The Hackensack University Medical Center provides physicians, nurses and counselors who attend meetings of the ranch.
Activities
For seven days, each child is expected to carry out tasks and duties as though it were a cowboy, such as caring for the needs of a horse to gain self-esteem. The ranch operates year-round, but the host children only when school is in session for eight sessions a week. Almost half of children from minority groups and 10% were black.
During a typical day, children do homework early start in the morning, feeding the different farm animals, watering plants, collecting eggs, and saddle the horses for a two-hour ride led by Imus. Recreational activities include swimming, games and pool table. In a concession to the serious health needs campers, the farm also has qualified personnel to address this medical need.
During the summer months, Imus broadcasts his syndicated radio program Nationally, Imus in the Morning, from a studio at the Ranch. Sometimes the children go to stay on the show with his wife Deirdre and son.
History
Imus, who was raised on a ranch in Arizona when he was young, he became interested in helping children with cancer after having participated in New York radio telethon in 1988 to raise money for a charity helping these children. After his marriage to Deirdre Coleman in 1994, the couple decided to build a ranch west where children with cancer could regain their self-esteem through participation in authentic ranch work. Deirdre Imus said in a magazine interview American Profile: "After working with these children, we noticed a common theme: I had cancer, but they were like normal children, except that lost their self-esteem. No one was actually found to restore their self-esteem or dignity. "
Initially, Imus used more than $ 1 million of your money to buy 810 hectares of the hacienda in 1998. The ranch costs about $ 25 million to build, raised through a public foundation created by them. The ranch now costs 1.8 million U.S. dollars annually to operate.
Controversies
In March 2005, a reporter for the Wall Street Journal wrote a critical article of the Treasury and the amount of money spent on each child. In 2006, the ranch spent $ 2.5 million in 90 children who visited the ranch, or $ 28,000 per child. Accusations accounting irregularities and the personal use of the assets of the charity were investigated by both the New Mexico Attorney General Patricia Madrid, and the State of New York, Eliot Spitzer, attorney general. No charges were filed in New Mexico. New York closed its investigation on March 24, 2005.
Fundraising sources

Corporate sponsors
Many large corporations donate significantly to the Rancho. Major donors have included Reader's Digest, for which it has been the Ocala ranch called, Unilever, and Wrangler jeans, among others. General Motors donates vehicles for use on the ranch. Buildings at the ranch have been appointed to the largest corporate supporters.
WFAN Radiothon
Every spring since 1990, conducted the WFAN WFAN Radiothon to benefit the Treasury Morning with the Children's Fund and the CJ Foundation for SIDS. Since 2005, the Radiothon raised more than $ 30 million to these charities.
Imus Food Ranch
Organic food and cleaning products sold in major markets and online under the tag mus Rancho de los Alimentos. All profits after tax on the sale of these products are donated to the ranch.
Books
In 2004, Deirdre Imus wrote a book entitled The Imus Ranch: Cooking for Kids and Cowboys published by Rodale Press (ISBN 0-87596-919-4). All profits after taxes from the sale of the book have been donated to the Rancho. On April 10, 2007, a second book by Deirdre Imus, entitled Greening cleaning, which was published by Simon & Schuster (ISBN 1-4165-4055-5).
Logs
In September 2008 the Imus Ranch Record, a CD country music, was released. Called "pairs artists and material that are inspired, and often inspiring, and nothing if not eclectic," a New York Times the critic, the album's sales benefit the estate. Featured artists who agreed to record the project include: Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Dwight Yoakam, Patty Loveless, Randy Travis, Little Richard, and Lucinda Williams.
