How I can darken / stain the furniture that already has a polyurethane finish?
I have several large pieces of furniture that is finished with a polyurethane transparent. My ex applying finish about 10 years ago and now I want a darker brown. The pieces are solid pine in Mexico. They are rustic but I went to the furniture store and saw that there were similar parts, but in a coffee stain still showed the wood grain. They also had a see through color, like red and green in some of the sides and front (as if that were originally color and did not completely out when it was refinished.) I have a bar, display cabinet, bookshelf, coffee table, dining table and chairs that I would do again. As you can tell I have a lot of furniture that I have to do it again. So less work I have to do better. Can this be done without having to strip the furniture? Please help! Amateur at work here. Thanks!
There varnish today they are both the varnish and stain, I'm not saying it will work, but I'd try lightly sanding one of the items that need patches, as a corner hidden from a unit that has not seen. It could save a hell of a lot of work, probably take a couple of layers.
