Log Cabin Questions?
I am looking to purchase a Log Cabin as my first home, but am curious to see what I should ask about it. The cabin is 67 years old, and is small, something like 800 sq ft. What should I ask the realator about? Is it un-reasonable to ask for maintainance records/proof its been taken care of?
You can always ask for any records they have but they certainly do not have to provide anything. Two things you should definitely do though are get a home inspection and get a termite inspection. When choosing a home inspector make sure you find one with knowledge of Log Cabins. Log cabins are not necessarily built the same as a stick frame home.
I would ask who the builder was. If it was built by an individual I would go to city hall and make sure all the correct permits were pulled. If the builder was a reputable builder that should have been done already. The biggest thing though you probably need to do is read up on Log Cabin Maintenance and building practices. The more knowledgeable you are the better position you will be in to purchase a log home.
