Lake Home Design | BlueStone Construction
When thinking about common design trends for lake home construction in Minnesota and Wisconsin lake country, it can be difficult to identify what design trends are universal to all lake homes since lake home design in general is a unique expression of each individual lake home owner's personal experience and inspiration.
Have compiled a list of some common design trends which seem to apply rather universally across the board:
1. The higher end a lake home is the more individual, custom and unique it must be. Here the design team has to be as powerful and talented as the skilled craftsmen in the field (or the other way around).
2. All lake homes have an abundance of glass facing the lake. It seems owners really enjoy looking at their lake.
3. A majority of owners prefer their great room, dining room, master bedroom and screen porch to have a direct view of the lake.
4. There must be a feeling of solidarity and substance when you experience the lake home. This can be accomplished through size of stones or timbers. Overall design scale can also achieve this. Sheer magnitude of meticulous architectural detail and craftsmanship also lends to a deeper experience at the lake.
5. Over the years the lowly cabin at the lake has been transformed to function as a majestic family resort compound where extended family can all enjoy each other in a meaningful setting.
6. Another near universal design element is the fact that a majority of lake home dreams seem to be driven by the husband. Lake homes are very masculine. Many times it is the male who has carried the dream of living at the lake since childhood. We find in most cases it is the husband who makes first contact with the design team.
Even though lake homes are a distinct reflection of each owner's individual vision and inspiration, there are commonalities with all lake homes that define and shape what it means to live at the lake in this day and age…even if "one-of-a-kind" is the goal.
