Rustic furniture. Q is just drawknives and types of wood.?
Will be working with logs to make a few pieces of rustic furniture and railings. Especially in the 3-8 "diameter range. Looking for advice on the length of the straight blade and reverse curves. I'll be trying out a few pieces of bark wood for the character. My source of wood is a piece of land bought 16acre. A small area will be cleaned by a small cabin. Is this Greenwood OK to use? Or is downed branches and trees to be best d / t of which is drier than wood? Types of trees on the land include (to the best of my knowledge limited) sugar maple, striped maple, beech, pine, poplar, fir, white birch. - Mixed forest of the Great Lakes of Ontario. Would you recommend any type of wood on others? Any advice would be great. If you have any experience with cutters of the post, I have another Q posted here about them too! ! ! hint hint THANKS
Greenwood is acceptable for fencing, but for the furniture you want dry wood, or all of your work will be in vain, as it dries and shrinks. Fit is important mortise tenon joints /. No specific information sheet, because my information comes from my dad is teaching me about the wood years ago, and liked to keep me away from the strong field. I use a folding box-cutter for the majority of big things, not what you need. You have good wood available by the sound of it, but you'll need a place to stack and store dry or shrink, crack and check when you bring into the house. (When the battery, remember to occasional cross parts as separators for parts of the central bottom really dry. And off the ground to dry and not too infested error. There are some good books around in rustic furniture. Are there any woodworkers in your area? We can give advice on local resources. Or, you are in Ontario? Try Lee Valley Tools, in person or online, that sell books and tools and are handy if you have questions.
